At OurMatrimony, we believe transparency is the foundation of trust. Below we clearly separate the technical privacy and safety controls implemented inside our Android app from essential safety practices every individual and family should follow.
Built-In Privacy & Moderation Controls
1. Photo Blur Lock & Chat Approval
In Privacy Settings, toggle off “Show Profile Photos”. Your uploaded photos are immediately blurred with a lock icon for other members until a viewer sends a photo request and you explicitly tap Approve inside the chat screen.
2. Private Mobile Number & Presence Toggles
Your +91 mobile number used for OTP login is kept private by default. You can also independently toggle Online Status, Last Seen, and Allow Search by Phone in the Privacy Settings screen.
3. Optional Aadhaar OTP KYC Badge
Through the Get Verified screen (powered by Digio KYC), members can verify their 12-digit Aadhaar via OTP, matching their profile Name and Date of Birth to earn a blue Verified badge. (Because this step is optional, not every profile on the app is Aadhaar-verified.)
4. Automated Chat Anti-Spam Filters
To protect members from unsolicited off-platform harassment and bulk spam, the in-app chat interface automatically blocks messages containing raw phone numbers and disables copy-paste spamming.
5. Instant Block & Report System
From any chat conversation, you can tap Block & Report to report suspicious or inappropriate behavior and immediately hide that user across Home, Search, Saved Profiles, and Horoscope Matching.
6. Self-Service Account Deletion
You remain in control of your account lifecycle. You can permanently delete your profile, uploaded photos, and account data at any time directly from Privacy Settings → Delete Account.
Best Practices for Safe Online Matrimonial Interactions
Zero Tolerance for Financial Requests & Scams
Never send money, gift cards, cryptocurrency, or bank transfers to anyone you connect with on a matrimonial app—no matter how convincing their story (medical emergency, customs fee, visa issue, or business trouble). Report any user asking for money immediately.
Verify Personal, Career & Family Details Independently
While OurMatrimony offers optional Aadhaar OTP verification for Name and Date of Birth, we do not verify income, employment, marital history, or family background. Always conduct thorough independent and family inquiries before proceeding toward engagement or marriage.
Guard Sensitive Personal Documents
Do not share copies of your Aadhaar card, PAN card, passport, home address, salary slips, or banking OTPs with other users in chat or over phone calls.
Involve Family & Meet in Public Locations
Keep parents or trusted family members informed throughout your matrimonial search. Arrange first meetings in safe, daytime public places and arrange your own transportation.
